The Junior League of Reading is holding two fundraising events this year. The purpose of these events is to help raise the necessary dollars to impact our Leagues focus area of creating, improving and expanding the resources available to all children, to enhance opportunities available for their growth, development, and overall welfare.

OUR LEAGUE BENEFITS FROM NEW
AJLI FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY:
THE JUNIOR LEAGUE SHOPPING MALL
The
Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. (AJLI) has
launched a new program that allows members and friends to
support The Junior League of Reading by making online purchases
through the Junior League shopping mall, a website created in
conjunction with Fundlink, LLC.
1,300 retailers have joined to help Junior Leagues by donating a
portion of their online proceeds. Merchants include Target®,
Macy’s®, Best Buy®, Nordstrom®, Barnes and Noble® and web-based
giants such as Expedia®. You do the shopping - they give a
donation!
The Junior League shopping mall works like any other online
shopping vehicle except now our League benefits from the
experience. After entering the shopping mall and selecting an
online retailer to visit, you will be asked to designate The
Junior League of Reading as the beneficiary of your shopping
experience. Once the designation is made, you will be sent
directly to the retailer of your choice to start shopping – it’s
that easy!

2007 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Berkshire Country Club
for an evening full of fun, food, friends, and shopping.
What better way to kick-off the holiday season! Twenty
specialty vendors will be providing an opportunity for you
to shop for jewelry, clothing, sweet treats, stationary, and
more – many of the items are hand crafted. While shopping,
enjoy some fabulous food and spirits, while being
entertained by a jazz string quartet. Tickets are $35 per

Get Ready for Touch-a-Truck 2008
On May 18, 2008, the Junior League of
Reading will host the 3rd Annual Touch-a-Truck 2008, a
community-based, family-oriented fundraising event with
hopes to be bigger and better than last year’s, which was a
great success! Entertainment, food and activities are being
planned. Don’t miss your favorite mascot! It promises to be
great family fun for everyone!
More than thirty-five trucks, fire engines, police cars,
heavy equipment, motorcycles, dump trucks, cranes, and
numerous other types of vehicles rallied to give children a
chance to experience a wonderful hands-on experience.
Children climbed on; scrambled over and touched to their
hearts’ desire their favorite vehicle and trucks.
One of the highlights of the day’s event was the “Teetering
Truck Track Race.” Children raced corporate sponsored cars
in a wooden truck derby.
If you are a business, local not-for-profit, government or
military organization, you can support Touch-a-Truck 2008 by
showing off your vehicles and allowing them to become part
of the children’s interactive display.

The Junior League of Reading, PA, Inc. and
The Greater Reading Convention & Visitors Bureau to Receive Proceeds
from Skate America
Reading,
Pa. (July 11, 2007) - Reading, Pa., will be the host city for 2007
Skate America, which will be held Oct. 26-28, 2007, at the Sovereign
Center. Skate America is an Olympic-style international figure
skating event featuring three days of competition in ladies, men’s,
pairs and ice dancing.
The event attracts more than 60 world-class figure skaters from
approximately 12 countries. Past champions include five-time World
and nine-time U.S. champion Michelle Kwan, 2002 Olympic bronze
medalist Timothy Goebel, 2002 Olympic pairs champions Jamie Salé &
David Pelletier of Canada, 1992 Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi
and 1984 Olympic champion Scott Hamilton. This competition is the
first event of the 2007 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series and
will be televised live by NBC.
Proceeds from the event will stay in Berks County and be used by The
Greater Reading Convention & Visitors Bureau (GRCVB) and The Junior
League of Reading, PA, Inc. The GRCVB will enhance its marketing
efforts to develop additional tourism opportunities for the Greater
Reading area. A non-profit, the GRCVB works to continue to build the
economy for Greater Reading, Berks County, PA through tourisms $1.1
billion economic impact.
The Junior League of Reading, PA, Inc. will develop and train
members to become effective community leaders and to provide grants
and programs to local non-profits that benefit children. This coming
year, The Junior League of Reading, PA, Inc. will partner with the
United Way of Berks County to organize and manage the development
and operation of a Play and Learn Center in Reading. The purpose of
the Play and Learn Center will be to provide opportunities for
parents, caregivers and children to engage in facilitated play and
learning-related activities together that stimulate children’s
development needed to prepare them for school success.
Founded in 1923, The Junior League of Reading, PA, Inc. is an
organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism,
developing the potential of women and improving communities through
the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its
