Kids in the Kitchen 2010:
The goal of
the Junior Leagues' Kids in the Kitchen initiative, which is supported
by The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. and its member Leagues,
is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the
growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues. Junior Leagues in
more than 200 locations provide lessons and demonstrations related to
preparation of healthy meals and snacks in partnership with local community
organizations, chefs and nutritionists. In 2006 and 2007 to date, over 200
million people have been reached with messages about the Kids in the Kitchen
program and ways to fight the spread of childhood obesity through Public Service
Announcements and media coverage. Please join the Junior League of Reading
at Penn State Berks, on May 16th
2010, for our local Kids
in the Kitchen Event.

Touch-a-Truck 2010

In the spring of 2010, the Junior League of Reading will host
the 5th Annual Touch-a-Truck 2010, a community-based,
family-oriented fundraising event with hopes to be bigger and
better than last year’s, which was a great success!
Entertainment, food and activities are being planned. Don’t miss
your favorite mascot! It promises to be great family fun for
everyone!
More than thirty-five trucks, fire engines, police cars, heavy
equipment, motorcycles, dump trucks, cranes, and numerous other
types of vehicles rallied to give children a chance to
experience a wonderful hands-on experience. Children climbed on;
scrambled over and touched to their hearts’ desire their
favorite vehicle and trucks.
One of the highlights of the day’s event was the “Teetering
Truck Track Race.” Children raced corporate sponsored cars in a
wooden truck derby.
If you are a business, local not-for-profit, government or
military organization, you can support Touch-a-Truck 2010 by
showing off your vehicles and allowing them to become part of
the children’s interactive display.
For more information, please call 610-374-9811.
