The Junior
League of Reading Sustainers are women who have been Active
members for at least 7 years and have chosen to become a
Sustaining member. Sustainers have no JLR requirements
other than to pay annual dues.
Sustainers
enjoy a variety of events: a Fall dinner, a Spring luncheon,
card parties, book clubs (both non-fiction and fiction), the
Poinsettia Luncheon and Boutique and the Issues meetings.
The Issues group provides fun and educational programs
throughout the year. Programs have included tours of local
agencies, historical sites, museums, gardens and other
points of interest.
Profits
from the Poinsettia Luncheon and Boutique are donated to
community groups that help area women and children. Last
year's profit was donated to the Salvation Army's After
School Program. This year, money has been given to the
Salvation Army's Back to School Clothing Program and to Camp
PeaceWorks which is run by Berks Women in Crisis.
Sustainers
also continue to support the Mother's Voice program at the
Berks County Prison. This program enables incarcerated
women to read a book onto a tape and then the tape and book
are sent to their child. We support this with our volunteer
hours and donations of books and money.
Our
programs and events are open to all Sustainers and our
members continue to enjoy the many friendships formed as
Active members of the Junior League of Reading. |
